This kid is one of a kind! Not even two years old and he’s helping Mom and Dad out around the house. I guess we’d better take advantage of it while we can, cause the day is coming when he’ll discover that cleaning ain’t fun.  But for now, it’s as cute as can be to see our little guy running over to help empty the dishwasher, or steal a rag off the counter to go wipe the edges of the kitchen table… All on his own, without any parental guidance. Crazy. It’s like I’m living in some kind of Bizzaro world were everything is backwards! Next up, Melissa is gonna let me sleep in on the weekends while making me her famous french toast with blueberries… Man, I hope she’s reading this ;) Anyways, the pic below shows you to what lengths Sam will go to… He’s actually cleaning the wall behind of stove! That has got to be one of the stickiest places in the house… hehehe… minds out of the gutters people!  But seriously, check out his dedication!

Really! Giving up his Saturday morning cartoons (Bugs Bunny and Tweety) to help out his folks. Let me tell you, I was never around when cleaning was on the menu with my parents. Holy crap, I did everything but buy a plane ticket, change my name and get a hair transplant to get as far away as possible.  I would got play Chess or read instead of putting a rag in my hand.  For a young sports-playing kid like I was, doing anything involving sitting down, without a video game controller in my hands, was murder.  But I did it to get away from the cleaning. Ah memories!

I’ve actually been pretty lazy about posting on Sam’s cleaning habits, because the next pic was him passing the vacuum 6 months ago!

6 months ago, Sam was suckin' up dust bunnies.

One thing is for sure, if this blog is still around when Sam is older, I’ll be sure to let you know when our little boy stops helping out around the house. We’re taking bets if anyone is interested… He’ll start ducking out like his Dad did when he’s about 5 years old… But that’s just me.

Take care and keep cleaning!

So many things, so little time! It’s an odd sensation, being a parent. Especially when you consider the little person you brought into this world, growing right in front of your eyes. Sure there’s all the major firsts: first smile, first laugh, first steps, etc.  But there are also a myriad of other, little moments that don’t seem to make it into most peoples general recollections of their child growing up. This is essentially what makes a blog like this priceless for Melissa and I… And one day, hopefully Sam. We can record these little bits that are so easily forgotten in the cavalcade of happenings, that when they occur, are pure genius. But they can be fleeting, these special times, because even though you marvel at the wonders of a child daily, they make you stop and realize that what your experiencing is true a moment to freeze in time and savor.  Whilst I try to write here about as many of these bits of Sam’s life as I can, some will unavoidably slip by, uncaught, into the stream of days. Which is kind of sad, but those that have been cradled in our minds and shown to family and friends will make us laugh, cry and relive those past intimacies, like they were fresh and new. For this I will be grateful forever more, and so without further ado… Some Sammy bits for you to enjoy!

It’s that time of year again, you crank open the windows letting that fresh spring breeze fill the house, and that’s when you notice dust bunnies bigger than Russell Crowe’s ego sliding across the floor. Yep, it’s time for a little spring cleaning! That meant my lazy Sunday was shot! When you ‘Spring Clean’ a house, you inherently sacrifice 2 days to do the job, in this case the weekend, thus rendering my chances of updating the blog as good as Ron Paul becoming president.

Quick note: This is a dust bunny… not this ;)

Saturday was a very busy day as the cleaning began in earnest with Melissa’s twin sister, Myriam, helping us out. Later in the day, Myriam’s boyfriend Norm showed up… just in time for lunch! What a coincidence! ;) Actually, I had invited him over and he helped pull out the patio furniture, which was appreciated. Inside the house, I got stuck on bathroom duty. Not to say our bathroom was rancid, we aren’t animals that dump on the floor after all, but it took me a good hour of scrubbin’ and wipin’ and sprayin’ and rinsin’ to get the job done.

Sunday was a little quieter, as we went through our closets to sift through our clothes. We take out what we haven’t worn the previous season, and if they are in good condition, we donate them to a local charity. Sam was eager to help us out here. Especially after Saturday’s failed attempt at his assigned task of washing the ceiling…  because he was sleeping on the job (see inset)! ;)

Sammy-boy started off nice and happy on a clean bed, but he soon noticed he was being surrounded! The piles were getting higher and we thought we might lose him in there! But thankfully, Mom and Dad finished going through the piles and freed Sam from his textile prison and the whole family relaxed together knowing it was a job well done!

What a weekend! Whew! Sam was so beat, he put on his joggers and ate chips all afternoon! OK, maybe that was Mom and Dad ;)
