Sammy loves to dance since he’s been training at his daycare for a Christmas show, which will be tomorrow. Melissa and I figured out something was up back in early November when Sam would start dancing to the music from his toys.  He would just bust out some moves we had never taught him or seen him do elsewhere. It was really fun to see him go and was a genuine surprise to us… One of those special moments you can’t plan for. Well, I finally managed to catch Sam in the act last weekend at my parents.  My Dad, a Christmas junkie, has a singing snowman that belts out Jingle Bells with accompaniment from his dog.  You start the thing by pressing the snowman’s hand and the good times start. Sam figured this out quickly enough, and once the power to command was in his hands, there was no stopping him! Dance Sammy dance!!!

You may have noticed the speakers on the singing toy start screeching some static, that’s because Sam played it so often, the speakers are starting to suffer some wear and tear! Go Sammy go! Wrecking Granpa’s Xmas toys!!! ;) So Sam is told to put the toy back, which is where he brings it towards the end of the vid… right back where he found it! Also notice Sam almost losing control in his spinning and getting dangerously close to the village that took me six hours to set up!

Have a great weekend folks!

This past weekend, we packed up and headed to my parents house to spread a little Christmas cheer.  We were a whole 5 days into the month of December and my parents had not put up their Christmas tree or their Christmas village, which I look forward to every year.  Now folks, this is an injustice.  My family has been pretty adamant about putting up decorations for the season since my youth: I’ve been tempered in the tradition of kicking off the seasonal cheer as close to December 1st as possible. Now, It was our turn to step in and get their house ready as they have way too many decorations for two people to handle. We got the tree up pretty quick as we all chipped in and got it done. And folks, leaving your lights on the tree from the year before works. Saved us HUGE amounts of time, which let me be free to work on my favorite piece: the Xmas village.

A Christmas village doesn’t seems like a big deal, but my Dad was a pretty heavy collector of the Dickens Village, Heritage Collection by Department 56 back in the day… well most of the nineties.  Which means his collection has grown to the point of near insanity.  It took me a marathon 6 hours to set this puppy up, and that’s with some help from Melissa and my parents… Oh! And Sam’s occasional mad dash to grab a piece.  Some of these pieces are priced in the hundreds as the amount of hand painted detail is pretty crazy, so it was constant vigilance with Slippery Sam sneaking around! So check out the slideshow below and see if you can find what Melissa and Sam were doing while I was playing mayor in Christmas town at 11pm… All I can say is that they sure do look comfortable! ;)

My little Xmas Elf!

My little Xmas Elf!

Well we are now in December and the season is upon us and so far, Sam has not disappointed.  Melissa and I really get into the spirit of things, as you can see on the left, and we love the goodwill that flows this time of year… Too bad it’s not year round eh? Now I realize that this isn’t the first Christmas we’ve had with Sam, but this year he is much more aware and active than his younger self was last year. This is a huge difference for us, not only the way it brings us back to our own childhoods and the innocent wonder of the season, but also on a level of parent alertness that was previously, seemingly, dormant. Take for instance, the Christmas tree…  Continue reading here…

PostHeaderIcon Sam is Chicken…

chickenPox…Pox, that is! Yep, Sammy has contracted a case of the Chicken Pox. He’s doing very well, however, you’d never know he had it other than the pimples that have sporadically popped up over his body. His face is mostly clear, only a coupld red ones by his nose and mouth. It’s his arms and legs that are taking most of the damage so far, including a huge king size pimple on his hip… yeech!  Thing is, they don’t seem to be itching him much, because he’s not scratching at all. Instead, since we found out about Sam’s pox, we’ve been scartching oursleves like crazy!  It must be some kind of psycho, mental trickery or somethin’.  Like watching a documentary on ants, only to start “feeling” them crawling all over you… but they aren’t there.  That’s kind of what Melissa and I have been living these past few days. Crazy brain playin’ tricks! I’ll spare you the pics of Sam’s condition, but if you really want to see that sort of thing, you can always google image search it. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

So that’s it for now from the hen house, chick back later for more eggcellent news!

PostHeaderIcon Sam is… Elmer Fudd.

The days and nights are getting chilly around here.  That means when we go out for our walks in the evening, we need to pack that little guy tight as to not freeze his bits off. Thus, I give you, the Elmer Fudd hat!

We’ve also acquired a pair of winter gloves that look like we ripped off a hazardous chemical suit. They look warm and they can stretch up to his shoulders if we wanted to… we don’t, but if we wanted to, they could… Not that I tried it on Sam…

Sam loves his walks, especially with all the Christmas lights going up around the neighborhood.  He just loves walking right up onto the people’s lawns, and blatantly stared at their lights… even if they happen to be changing in the window at that very moment! Yeah, then I look like the perv!

Keep warm folks!

PostHeaderIcon Sam’s All Wet!

aDSCN5854Last Saturday morning, we took Sam to his first “official” swimming lesson. It was official because we don’t count those times last summer that we threw him around in the various pools we’ve visited. Sam loves the water, so much so it’s a little scary.  He doesn’t yet recognize the danger water could have, so we are happy, yet weary, of his enthusiasm around large bodies of water: he has no fear.  Melissa saw this and suggested we sign him up at the local college pool center for some lessons. I thought this was a pretty neat idea, and folks, Melissa is full of them! :)

Now, saying that we went and had a good time would be summarizing things up from Sam’s point of view, not from an adults point of view…  Sam gets a fun car ride, wears a funky-cool body glove like bathing suit, plays with Dad in the pool and gets all the attention of the cute life guards… Nice work if you can get it.

PostHeaderIcon Sleepless Elsewhere than Seattle

bDSCN5481As you may or may not know (read the story here), Sam is now out of his crib.  He took a swan dive during a faithful night in October that sealed the deal on the crib, and made us hastily introduce him to the world of ‘Big Boy Beds’. Well actually, his new kiddy bed is on order and we should get it next week.  Meanwhile, the little stinker is camping it out in the backyard shed.  Now I know you may be freaking out a little over this, but trust me, we thought of everything… Right down to the kerosene lamp… Taught him to light it too! My boy, sniff sniff, already a man :(

In reality folks, he’s just camping out on his crib mattress on the floor of his room and therein lies the problem: It’s too much freedom!

PostHeaderIcon Halloween: Aunt Ingrid Revealed!

DSCN5594aWell tomorrow is the big day, and Aunt Ingrid is finally ready to great our little trick or treaters! Yes here she is in most of her glory… there’s a going to be a little more ambiance on Halloween night, but this will give you all the general idea of what Anut Ingrid is… And so far, Sam is on the scared side… He used to think she was funny looking, but now, well he’s a lot more hesitant to go walking up to her… or even to go in the basement… MUH AHAHAHAHAHAHA! Hopefully the weather will clear up form tomorrow night, as Aunty Ingrid does not mix too well with water! Oh well, thems the breaks I guess!  It’s just too bad if it does rain, Ingrid is hours of work and more patience that I thought I had! Too bad, because she’s worth it!

Continue here… If you dare! Muhahaha! Ahem… um yeah…

PostHeaderIcon Halloween: Last Days!

DSCN5383gI’ll tell you, Aunt Ingrid is getting pretty antsy as her big day is coming up Saturday and she just can’t wait to get the kids… I mean, treat the kids to some candy on Halloween! She’s been acting pretty weird for aDSCN5502gggg while now.  She’ll rarely come out of the basement, yet she insists we put pumpkins and candles everywhere in the house.  She keeps saying it’s easier on her complexion. Other odd things have changed around the house, like the porch light turning blood red, and an eerie pumpkin patch growing in our front yard. I think she night be behind these mysterious additions…

dscn5476ggBeing the gracious hosts we are, I even had to clean out her cauldron for her!  And folks, they don’t have self-cleaning cauldrons like we do ovens.  I had to haul that bad-boy out on the back porch and scrub off as must grime and rust as I could.  That thing weights a ton, like it’s made of cast iron from the middle ages…

dscn5496gggShe’s also insisting on eating her own food! Bizarre jars of stuff I’ve never seen are popping up in the house, some of which I’m pretty sure is not legal.  She’s like making soup with them too… freakin weird ya know?! Never anything else! She just likes brewing up some good “home made concoctions”  or “home brews” as she calls them between cackling laughter.

DSCN5459gAlso, she keeps eyeing Sam like he’s a big juicy turkey or something. Licking her chops and rubbing her hands together. Now I’ve watched enough cartoon to recognize that kind of behavior, so we don’t leave Sam alone with her at all.  Every time he sees her, he shakes his hands and makes a “WoooOWoWOOOWoWoWOWOW” noise.

DSCN5445gWell If he’s not enjoying the company of his great aunt Ingrid, he sure is having fun with the pumpkins around the house! Especially those with lights in them. Thankfully, Aunt Ingrid stays in the cellar by day, and only sneeks out in the dead of night, while Sam’s is sleeping, and doesn’t see him toying with her things…

OK gotta go for now folks, I see Melissa sweeping our deck with and old broom I’ve never seen before… Check back soon for some pics of the weirdness going on at our house this October!
